Why We’re Here
The Casual Society of Literary Women began with a simple idea to create space for women to step away from the pace of everyday life and reconnect through books, conversation, and shared perspective. What started as a quiet concept has grown into a thoughtful, evolving community shaped by the women who take part in it.

A Different Kind of Space
This is not a formal literary organization or academic setting. Instead, it’s a relaxed and supportive environment where women can engage with literature in a way that feels natural, personal, and meaningful without pressure or expectation.
What We Offer
Today, the Society brings women together in a variety of ways. From small, discussion-based book gatherings to immersive experiences like our Lakeside Literature Retreat, each offering is designed to create space for reflection, conversation, and connection.
We also provide editorial services for writers seeking thoughtful guidance and support extending the same care and intention we bring to our gatherings into the creative process itself.

What We Believe
We believe literature does more than entertain it deepens understanding, expands perspective, and creates connection. Through shared stories and thoughtful dialogue, we create space for reflection, creativity, and a sense of belonging.

Our Purpose
The Casual Society of Literary Women exists to create a welcoming space where women can explore literature, exchange ideas, and find connection through stories. Through retreats, literary services, and community conversations, we aim to cultivate thoughtful dialogue, creative expression, and a shared appreciation for the written word.

Our Vision
We envision a community where women feel encouraged to engage with literature in ways that inspire reflection, creativity, and connection a place where perspectives expand, stories are shared, and new voices feel welcome to emerge.
Meet The Founder
Emily Piller
Founder, Casual Society of Literary Women
Emily Piller founded The Casual Society of Literary Women to create a welcoming community for women who value literature, thoughtful conversation, and meaningful connection.
After a fifteen-year career in nursing, Emily made a purposeful midlife transition to reconnect with her long-standing passion for books, storytelling, and the literary world. Through the Society, she is building a space where women can gather to read, reflect, and engage in thoughtful dialogue.
Her vision for the Society includes curated literary retreats, gatherings, and services that invite women to step away from the pace of everyday life and reconnect with ideas, stories, and one another.
When she’s not reading or writing, Emily enjoys exploring independent bookstores and discovering new voices in contemporary literature.
